How to Maintain Box Braids

I don’t think I mentioned that I cut my hair back in December. Not just a tiny bit. I mean, I CHOPPED my hair!

At the time, it was something I really wanted to do because I was tired of my hair, but now I regret it. I miss my hair so much, only because short hair seems to have no versatility .. TO ME. I can’t deal.

So, when my mom came to visit me, I asked her to do box braids on me, and that she did. Thank God for moms who know how to do hair.

Box braids are usually my go to protective style. So, I’m going to share with you what I know about maintaining them.

How to Maintain Box Braids

Wear a Satin Scarf to Sleep

-You should wear a satin scarf to sleep the same way you would if your natural hair was out. Just because you have a protective style doesn’t mean you should be careless. A satin scarf will keep your braids looking fresh and prevent frizz.

Keep Your Scalp Moisturized

– I’ve noticed that my scalp gets really dry when I have box braids. The best moisture you can give your scalp is water. Spray your scalp with water for extra moisture. Aside from this I also like to oil my scalp.

Wash Your Hair

– That’s it. Wash your hair regularly. Liquid Shampoo or Dry Shampoo. The product you may put on your hair or scalp will build up, and build up starts to smell. So wash it, girl!

Avoid Tight Styles

– This means no tight up do’s, like buns or ponytails. Not saying don’t wear them, just make sure they are not super tight. You don’t want your hair to fall out, or any strain to be placed on your edges.

– You can get some braids redone to keep it looking fresh.
