‘A Wrinkle in Time’ is the story of a young girl named Meg who is in search of her father. Her parents are scientists who believe it is possible to travel through the universe using only their minds, but it takes finding the right frequency. Her father figures it out, but he gets lost and is gone for four years. You could only imagine how this affects Meg emotionally and socially. Three beings (Mrs. Who, Mrs. WhatsIt & Mrs. Which) of the universe introduce themselves to Meg and send her, her brother, and her friend on a journey to find her father. Along the way Meg learns many lessons. Many of these lessons, can be applied to our own lives. Here are a few.
“THE ONE THING FASTER THAN LIGHT IS DARKNESS”
Light is definitely a significant theme within this story. We find out that Mrs. Who, Mrs WhatsIt and Mrs. Which feed off of light. Light is the fuel that keeps these three women going and without it, they cannot function.
Meg’s main obstacle is that she can’t find the light within herself. She battles insecurities and for the past 4 years that her father has been gone, she has allowed darkness to cast a shadow over her. If Meg is in darkness, how can she rescue her father which whom darkness has consumed on another planet? Meg learns to find the light within herself throughout the journey. The more light she let’s in, the easier the fight to find her father becomes.
Lesson being that it is so easy to get tangled up in “darkness” if you allow it.
“BE A WARRIOR”
The mind is extremely powerful. Clearly. Meg’s father used it to travel through the universe. Even more so, the mind is so powerful because it can make you feel defeated. I think this is something we can all relate to. Like the domino effect, one thing gone wrong can cause a million other things to feel wrong too. The mind can trigger feelings of low self esteem, depression, anxiety, loneliness and even fear.
‘A Wrinkle in Time’ says you should discover your inner warrior. Meg’s life was full of imbalance, and if you’ve seen the movie you know which scene LITERALLY gave me that impression. If Meg wanted to complete her mission, she was going to have to be a warrior. It is important that we don’t allow our minds affect us negatively. Be a warrior and be in control.
“You’re going to be tested every step of the way. Have faith in who you are.”
This one is quite simple. How often are you sure of something and let doubt stray you away from where your intuition is guiding you? Then realize you were right all along. Or maybe you doubt yourself so much you no longer believe you’re worthy or capable. Be confident. Have faith in who you are because nine times out of ten, you know yourself better than anyone else does & your intuition will never let you down.
