When Your Box Braids Only Last Two Weeks.. | Adanna Daily

Y’all .. I’m so mad, but I can’t lie, I’m so relieved at the same time lol. So, two weeks ago I decided to go get my hair done because I wanted to give my natural hair a break. So that called for a protective style. As most know, my go to style is box braids. I sat in a chair for a total of 5 hours and paid $$$, so I really wanted to make it last.

First day with the box braids

When I first got it done, my braids were so tight. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t even change my facial expression for a couple days and on top of that I had the worst migraine. My braids were still bomb though.

Once I got over the tightness of my braids, I noticed my scalp getting extremely dry. I was starting to see flakes and my scalp was itching uncontrollably to the point that my scalp was turning red. As you could imagine, this was annoying af to deal with. I then decided to buy an oil from the beauty supply store, specifically for itchy scalp (it even has tea tree oil in it). My scalp was sucking up the oil, it was literally unbelievable. Now, this is not the first time I’ve dealt with this when having box braids. I’ve noticed it happens when I use a certain kind of hair, so I do believe I’m allergic. My only problem is I didn’t pay attention to the brand, so I’m kinda unsure of what hair works for me and which doesn’t. ugh!

After two weeks of dealing with this, I decided that my best option was to just take the hair out because my scalp was now in so much pain. Taking down the braids was a quick process. (Let me know if you want a post on how I take down my box braids) Washing my hair though was extremely painful, but I’m just glad I got it over with. I rather just rock my natural hair for now and style it as I go. Should I cut out box braids completely? Has anyone else had a similar experience? If so, what did you do? Let me know down below!
